Charles Moroney Park
About the project
JMac was engaged to upgrade various aspects of Charles Moroney Park including play equipment, playing fields and services. The 12.5 hectare suburban park, located in Kelso, is also home to two local sporting clubs which bordered JMac’s project site.
Scope
Construction of multi-use hard courts and upgrades to the playing fields
Installation of a BMX pump track and ninja obstacle course
Installation of new playground equipment including a tower, seesaw, carousel, double swing, large rubber frog, whale and turtle and 349m2 of soft fall
Construction of 1174m2 of plain grey pavements with 206m2 of concrete overlay treatment and 284m2 of existing concrete path treatment
Installation of grandstand seating for playing fields
Installation of two picnic settings with shelters
Construction of a new BBQ area
Installation of 53 bollards
Installation of an automatic irrigation system connected to council’s IRRinet including bore pump house and an 800,000 litre water tank
Installation of all associated electrical conduits, cabling, pits and communications for security cameras
Planting of 1200 plants ranging in size from 140 millimetres to 200 litres
Supply and laying of 3441m2 of couch turf
Maintenance to existing turf throughout the project
Outcomes
JMac encountered programming challenges on the project including unseasonal rain events and a delayed start date due to re-designs.
Despite this, the project team worked collaboratively to successfully deliver works to the original deadline.
This was achieved through strategic replanning of works, use of exclusion zones to allow adjacent crews to work concurrently, and reallocation of resources to dry areas across the park as required.
As a result of this approach, the project was delivered on schedule, on budget, and with no major recordable injuries across the 13,000 hours worked.
