JMac constructed streetscapes and the Village Heart in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village. The project site spanned 35 hectares and included approximately 3 kilometres of streetscapes and boulevard works, radiating out from the 7 hectare central park and Village Heart. The Village Heart contains a 200 metre long, three dimensional double helix rolled steel arbour, and a one-of-a-kind resin infused fibre composite disc structure with a smart lighting backlit water feature.

Project scope

20,000m3  of bulk earthworks

Supply and laying 35,000m2 of turf

Supply and planting 60 ex-ground street trees

Installation of double helix arbour structure and disc structure

Construction of a subterranean plant filtration room beneath the disc structure

Construction of custom street furniture including seats, picnic settings and bollards

Construction of 25,000m2 of pavements

Construction of 500 metres of seating walls

Installation of sewer, water, stormwater, irrigation, electrical, code and feature lighting

Construction of an amenities building

Maintenance contract extended to include works during the 2018 Commonwealth Games

Outcomes

JMac collaborated effectively with the designers throughout the project to ensure constructability, without compromising on the unique design.

State of the art virtual reality technology was used to review the helix arbour prior to construction, which ensured the safest possible construction methodology was utilised.

The Village Heart pond system was also designed with the ability to in-line flocculate the ponds, providing long term savings in cleaning costs for council.

Testimonial

“JMac was commissioned to deliver the design and construction of the Village Heart for the Parklands project and demonstrated their ability to manage and co-ordinate high risk works, manage multiple different disciplines in a confined space, and maintain project program to achieve a high-quality finish that all stakeholders were proud to be associated with.”
