Port Capacity Project - Roads and Services
About the project
The Port Capacity Project was a $1.6 billion upgrade to the Port of Melbourne to improve capacity and efficiency, while minimising impact on surrounding suburbs. JMac Constructions was awarded the landscaping portion of the Roads and Services package which included the construction of landscaped buffer zones and the upgrade of nearby reserves.
Scope
Construction of 6590m2 of exposed aggregate concrete pavements, 1200m2 of granitic sand paths and 400m2 of bluestone pavements
Construction of a 2400 metre timber boardwalk installed on screw pile foundations
Supply and installation of over 180,000 plants to gardens and buffer zones
Supply and installation of over 45,000m2 of hydroseeding and 10,000m3 of soil
Installation of timber border and dune protection fencing
Supply and installation of furniture, drinking fountains, beach showers and lighting
Outcomes
JMac completed the project with no lost time injuries.
The project team worked to the highest environmental standards, including the implementation of no-go zones and sediment controls.
Fencing and mulch bunds captured runoff and all vegetation within the boundary of works remained undisturbed, unless agreed upon by the Superintendent.
JMac recommended changes during the design phase of the project to help decrease construction and maintenance costs, and improve constructability and durability.
