About the project
JMac was engaged to design and construct a boardwalk along Ross Creek, Townsville. Delivered as part of the Townsville Stadium Precinct upgrade, the boardwalk provides a key pedestrian connection between the stadium, Victoria Bridge and the Townsville CBD.
Scope
750 m³ of bulk earthworks
Construction of bearers and joists, including stainless steel bolts
Installation of 2,250 decking boards with decking screws
Construction of 500m² concrete footpath
Installation of 350 bollards and 6,50 m² of turf
Application of 15,000m² of hydromulch
Installation of 400 metres of stainless steel handrails with LED pilot lights and balustrade panels
Upgrade to stormwater infrastructure, including removal and replacement of ageing assets beneath the boardwalk
Upgrade to street lighting and installation of CCTV infrastructure
Outcomes
The project was delivered within an environmentally sensitive area adjacent to Ross Creek, on land previously used as a local landfill. All unsuitable materials were removed from site, with aquatic silt curtains and cofferdams installed to protect the creek and manage tidal variations of up to 3.5 metres.
JMac proposed an alternative construction methodology that achieved substantial program efficiencies and delivered a cost saving of $100,000 for the client.
